Republican Dan Bishop sues Jeff Jackson's campaign in Attorney General race

Republican Congressman Dan Bishop has sued Democrat Jeff Jackson’s campaign in their race for North Carolina Attorney General, alleging the campaign and other Democratic aligned groups defamed him with a push poll.

The lawsuit says Dynata Polling called a Union County voter this summer, and asked: “Would you be more or less likely to vote for Dan Bishop if you knew that, as a lawyer, he represented people who stole money from the elderly.”

Bishop argues in his lawsuit that the poll was couched as a question but characterized as fact. He said he’s never represented someone like that in his 30 years as a lawyer. Bishop’s lawsuit, filed in Union County, was first reported by Courthouse News.

He also sued other groups, including the state Democratic Party, the Democratic Attorneys General Association and Dynata.

Jackson is also in Congress. He represents Charlotte and Gaston County.

Jackson’s campaign issued a statement saying they expect a swift resolution
