Man Fatally Shot By Two CMPD Officers In Northeast Charlotte

Updated at 1:10 p.m.

A 29-year-old Hispanic man was shot and killed by two CMPD officers Wednesday night in northeast Charlotte. The man, identified as Rueben Galindo, had called police ahead of the shooting and informed them he had a gun, CMPD reports.

The call, placed at 9:10 p.m., led Officers Courtney Suggs and David Guerra to the Hunters Pointe apartment complex on the 1900 block of Prospect Drive. Upon arriving, the officers encountered Galindo outside the complex. He was armed, officers said.

The officers reportedly commanded him to drop his weapon multiple times. When he refused, both officers fired, hitting and killing him. The officers immediately requested Medic. CMPD says the handgun that Galindo was holding was later recovered by police detectives at the scene.

Officer Suggs has been with the department since December 2014, and Officer Guerra since April 2013. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting.

CMPD saidin a tweet posted at 10:10 p.m. that no officers were hurt in the shooting.
