Police say officers responding to a car wreck in Charlotte on Friday morning discovered a homicide instead.

Officers arrived in the 13900 block of Pinyon Pine Lane, where a vehicle had crashed into a home, just before 9:15 a.m. They found a 29-year-old man inside the vehicle who had apparently been shot. The victim, Kelvin Dunlap Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The investigation was still in its early stages late Friday afternoon.

Pinyon Pine Lane is near Harrisburg Road on the easternmost side of the city.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call 704-432-Tips to talk to a homicide detective.

The latest homicide comes amid a violent year for Charlotte, which earlier this month saw 2019's homicide total surpass the entirety of 2018.
