Police say a man has been killed and another man injured in an early morning shooting in Charlotte's South End. The deceased man's body was found lying in the intersection of Summit Avenue and South Tryon Street, an area known for art galleries, boutiques and trendy breweries.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the shooting was reported at 2:05 a.m. Saturday. Officers who arrived at the scene found the man's body in the road. He was identified as 30-year-old Jervon Sloan.

A short time later, officers say, another man believed to have been involved in the shooting arrived at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Police say he is expected to recover.

In a news release sent out Saturday night, CMPD dectectives said they had identified and interviewed the shooter and decided not to file any charges at the time. The news release did not give the shooter's name.

Hours after the South End shooting, another deadly shooting was reported in north Charlotte involving a 26-year-old man whom officers found dead inside a vehicle. In that case, police said they had also identified the shooter and did not expect to press charges.

Including Saturday's shootings, the city has had 81 reported homicides since January, putting the city on pace to possibly setting a 10-year record. Only 2017 has seen more homicides over the past decade. Police reported 87 homicides that year.

Anyone with information about Saturday's shootings is asked to call 704-432-TIPS to speak to a police detective. The public can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers website to share information about the shooting.
