Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex near the UNC Charlotte.
Detectives were investigating the shooting, which occurred in the 9900 block of University Village Boulevard at the University Village apartments, not far from where a vigil for victims of the deadly campus attack was ending.
CMPD said it received a call for assistance at 7:49 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a male victim with gunshot wounds in the pool area of the apartment complex. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
Police said the incident has no connection to UNC Charlotte and posed no threat to the campus.
