Fruit company Chiquita was briefly headquartered in Charlotte. It announced in 2015 that it would close its headquarters, where more than 300 people worked. That was after the company was taken over by a Brazilian conglomerate and it was only a few years after the city, county and state offered a roughly $22 million incentive package for the company to relocate to Charlotte from Cincinnati with the understanding the Chiquita would stay in town for 11 years.

The Blue Line Extension is a 9.8-mile extension of the LYNX Blue Line light rail. The project, which began in 2014 and finished construction in 2018, extended the light rail from the 7th Street Station in uptown through NoDa and University, terminating on the UNC Charlotte campus.
