Monday, Nov. 18, 2019

Programming note: The Local News Roundup was preempted by impeachment proceedings and will air on Monday at 9am.

Impeachment hearings begin as 9th District Congressman Dan Bishop publishes what he believes to be the identity of the whistleblower. And, good news for Charlotte’s bid for Major League Soccer. That and more on the Local News Roundup.

The House gavels in the first public hearings in the Trump impeachment inquiry, while on the other side of the Capitol, North Carolina Senator Richard Burr is forecasting a Senate trial of the president that could last two months.

Other Republicans have talked about, and the president has demanded it. Now, newly-elected Charlotte Congressman Dan Bishop has done it – posting the name of the person he suspects of being the whistleblower who initiated the impeachment inquiry.

Charlotte is now said to be at "the front of the line" for a Major League Soccer expansion team.

City Council OKs $50 million to continue work on the Silver Line light rail after waiting to see whether the arts tax would eat up sales tax revenue that could help fund the rail line. Organizers of next summer’s Republican National Convention in Charlotte are sketching how the made-for-TV event will be laid out at Spectrum Center.
