The ousted Cardinal Innovations Healthcare CEO filed another lawsuitaccusing a lawyer who investigated him of libel and slander.
Richard Topping is suing Kurt Meyers, a lawyer at McGuire Woods LLP. He was hired by Cardinal to investigate Topping’s conduct surrounding his exit and severance payment.
Meyers, previously a U.S. Attorney, told the press in March that Topping stole intellectual property and intended to use it for a new venture. He also said Topping took steps to boost his pay and severance and misinformed board members. Topping said those claims are false and ruined his reputation. Meyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
This is the second libel and slander lawsuit Topping has filed since he was fired from the company last year. The first one, filed earlier this month, was against Cardinal and some of its employees and board members.
Cardinal is also suing Topping to recover $1.7 million dollars in severance pay. Cardinal said in a statement that it was disappointed to learn that Topping had filed a suit against an excellent lawyer from one of the best law firms in the country for conducting and reporting the results of an independent investigation.
