North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services has approved CaroMont Health’s plan to build a hospital in Belmont near Interstate 85 and state highway 273.
The facility will be the health system’s second hospital in Gaston County and will include an emergency department, 66 patient beds, two operating rooms and a labor and delivery unit, according to a CaroMont news release Wednesday.
CaroMont spokeswoman Darcel Walker said the new hospital is expected to cost around $196 million and construction could begin as early as the summer of 2021.
The approval of CaroMont Regional Medical Center-Belmont also clears the way for the health system’s plans to add a four-floor, 78-room tower to its main hospital in Gastonia, according to the release.
