Charlotte Talks Politics: The 'Never Trump' Wing Of The Republican Party

Monday, May 18, 2020

Four years ago, it was the "Stop Trump" movement. After the Republican nomination was decided, it became "Never Trump." It failed on both scores, but anti-Trump Republicans are still around and hoping to influence the outcome in 2020.

To be sure, it’s a small faction within the party. Polls in recent months have shown Republican support for Trump north of 90 %, and those who challenged Trump’s re-nomination were swiftly sent home.

Still, the group has managed to get under Trump’s skin

Some conservatives who initially had qualms about Trump have since become allies. Why did some of these Republicans cozy up to Trump while others went into the party’s wilderness?
