Charlotte Talks Politics: Biden Nears VP Decision; NC Absentee Ballot Requests Surge

Monday, Aug. 10, 2020

A roundup of the political scene as this unlike-any-other election year nears some familiar mileposts: the selection of a running mate and the conventions. But even those are going to be unusual.

Joe Biden is still vetting potential vice presidential nomineesin the final days before the Democrats gavel what’s left of their convention into order in Milwaukee, where there will be zero delegates – and no nominee.

Charlotte is two weeks out from the makeshift Republican convention, while Donald Trump tries to figure out where he’ll make his argument for a second term – an argument that, according to the polls, voters aren’t buying.

North Carolina voters are flooding elections officials with requests for absentee ballots, while concerns are being raised about the Postal Service’s ability to handle what’s expected to be a record number of mail-in ballots.
