The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is pushing back after a conservative group called Accuracy in Media published what it says is a video that shows the school is surreptitiously pursuing banned diversity, equity and inclusion policies. The organization released a video on May 28 of a university employee saying her division continues to engage in DEI-related work, but under new names.

Last May, the UNC System board members voted to eliminate DEI offices and programs on system campuses and ordered school officials to cut all DEI spending and positions. UNC Charlotte disbanded three DEI offices and assigned those employees to other divisions.
The university released a statement saying the employee’s comments in the video were inaccurate and that the university is complying with DEI-related policies and laws. Deputy Chief Communications Officer Christy Jackson said the employee has no policymaking or compliance authority and was not authorized to speak on the issue. She said an internal review was conducted and the employee in the video is no longer employed by the university.
