CATS Map Will Help Navigate Light Rail Extension Traffic

CATS

Major construction of bridges and tracks for the blue line light rail extension will begin in the next few months. And with that, be ready to spend more time in traffic. Charlotte Area Transit System officials announced Friday that it's making a map available to give commuters a heads up on road and lane closures and turning restrictions during construction.

On the city's website, a map displays the future station stops of the 9.3 mile extension with icons displaying road blocks. When you click on the closure icons, the map gives you suggestions on detours you can take to reduce your time in traffic.

The blue line extension will have 11 station stops from 9th Street in uptown all the way to UNC Charlotte. The project is now in the civil construction phase as trees are being cleared and retaining walls are starting to go up.

The blue line is expected to be complete by Spring 2017.
