Event Description

Please join Equality North Carolina and a number of special guests for a public strategic planning event about our path in the months to come. This is a unique opportunity for our community to shape ENC's work, vision and goals as we navigate this new reality together. Speakers include: Cara Page is a Black Queer Feminist cultural/memory worker, curator, and organizer. For the past 30+ years, she has organized in the US & Global South at the intersections of racial, gender & economic justice, healing justice and transformative justice. She is an architect of healing justice and lead organizer & curator of Changing Frequencies; a cultural change project seeking to transform generational trauma in the Medical Industrial Complex. Dr. Tonia Poteat is on the faculty of the Dept of Social Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a physician assistant who provides culturally aware, gender-affirming medical care for LGBTQ people and conducts research in partnership with transgender communities. Her research is affiliated with the UNC Center Health Equity Research and the UNC Center for AIDS Research. Mab Segrest grew up in Tuskegee, AL. Her early experience in this apartheid culture shaped her work as a public intellectual, organizer and scholar, as did her "coming out" as a lesbian into a dynamic, multiracial feminist movement. A co-founder of SONG, she has just published Administrations of Lunacy: Racism and the Haunting of American Psychiatry at the Milledgeville Asylum. REGISTRATION REQUIRED: https://forms.gle/1aHvcUCQeuwWTNMi9 Open to the Equality NC community.
