BY ANY OTHER NAME: An Opus for James Baldwin is a two-act theatrical tribute exploring the life and legacy of acclaimed writer James Baldwin. Written and directed by Charlotte playwright Brian Daye, the production blends historical fact with poetic fiction to trace Baldwin’s journey from Harlem and Paris to his emergence as one of America’s most influential writers and thinkers.

Solo Exhibition by Artist Carl Hercules Childs. "A Story About Infinite Numbers, Letters & Symbols" is a highly interactive show featuring Japanese Water Marbling, Leatherworks, Composite shields, Aurora Borealis and Black light reactive paintings. This show pulls you in with Haiku poems to read and a scavenger hunt for information and images in different paintings. There are also opportunities to learn other languages, primary colors, numbers, A, B C's and shapes. This event is perfect for the 100 years young Artist, the Pre-K Artist and everyone else.

All throughout September, guests are invited to join the mountain’s naturalists as they count and celebrate the annual spectacle of fall raptor migration. Participants can observe the migration from viewing locations on Linville Peak (across the Mile High Swinging Bridge) and Half Moon Overlook (the first major overlook when entering the park). Included with admission.
TREO Foundation’s The Walk is the only national walk event raising awarenessabout obesity and medical treatment options. This peer-to-peer fundraiserfeatures a “set your own pace” walk or run. Events may include exercise warmups,healthy food-prep demonstrations, expert speakers, and information onlocal obesity care options.

Celebrate two decades of artistry, community, and craftsmanship at the 20th Anniversary Potters Market at the Mint. This juried event brings together 55 of North Carolina’s most highly regarded potters alongside collectors and ceramic enthusiasts from across the region. The event includes an artist talk with renowned Pueblo ceramic artist Virgil Ortiz at 1 PM. Plus, live pottery demonstrations, bluegrass music, a beer garden and café, and blind-bidding auction throughout the day. For this milestone year, Potters Market at the Mint is a proud participant in Handwork 2026, Craft in America’s year-long semiquincentennial collaboration among organizations, educators and makers to showcase the importance of the handmade and celebrates the diversity of the crafts that define America.

Flat Footed Truths: Stories of Lived Experiences is a juried quilt exhibition featuring quilts and fiber art that depict the soul-stirring, truth-telling, and compelling stories of African American women.
This exhibit is named and influenced by the book written by Patricia Bell-Scott, Flat Footed Truths: Telling Black Women’s Lives. These stories and the truths they tell come to life in this unforgettable exhibit.
