The second annual Charlotte Latino Film Festival screened its closing film over the weekend with Colombian actress Majida Issa and director Juan Carlos Mazo.

Cine Casual, a Charlotte nonprofit specializing in Latin American cinema, will host the Charlotte Latino Film Festival at the Independent Picture House in NoDa from March 27 to April 6.

There’s a new film series in Charlotte that is the only one of its kind in the Carolinas. It’s called "Wavelengths," and it shows classic experimental movies. The series will include rare 16-millimeter films that have also been shown at the MoMA in New York and the Tate in London.

Charlotte's only independent movie theater opens its fourth — and largest — auditorium this Thanksgiving Day, nearly doubling its footprint. Staff can remove the first two rows of seating to create a stage.

The Independent Picture House will add an event space and a fourth auditorium that could double as a live performance venue, the nonprofit announced.
