She joined NPR in 1978 and was a key figure in its early years. She later went on to ABC News and was widely known for her political coverage. Roberts went on to reappear as a regular at NPR, serving as a "Morning Edition" commentator for more than a decade. Roberts was also a political analyst for ABC News and bestselling author. She was named a "living legend" by the Library of Congress. She won three Emmy awards and was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. According to NPR, Roberts was awarded more than 20 honorary degrees.Roberts wrote four books focusing on women in American history, "We Are Our Mothers' Daughters," "Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation," "Ladies of Liberty" and "Capital Dames: The Civil War and the Women of Washington."She and her husband, Steven V. Roberts, had a syndicated column and wrote "From This Day Forward," a book about marriage — including their own.Roberts had been a guest on WFAE's "Charlotte Talks," including a live taping before an audience in 2016.
