On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was killed while being arrested by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a report of using a fake $20 bill to buy a pack of cigarettes. Video shows Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for several minutes while Floyd was held on the ground by other police officers. In following days, George Floyd's death spurred protests of police violence against African Americans in cities across the United States.
